Janice Watkins
Currently, I am single. I have four children --2 sons and 2 daughters. I am a Buyer @ IBM. A few highlights I remember are below:
One of the most impressive things I remember was that the guys on the track team elected me as the "Track Queen" one year. I represented our team at a major event at Sequoia High School in Redwood City. ( I think that was in the 10th or 11th grade)
Also, I remember being one of few that belonged to CSF (Calif. Scholarship Federation). One became a member if they had a GPA of 4.0...
I remember having fun when we would have dance contests in the cafeteria at lunch time. I danced with my brother, Hardy Watkins. We never won because my brother would make me laugh just when the person would say, "Freeze," and everyone had to be still. The persons moving were eliminated from the contestants. Hardy was such a clown that I could not help but laugh, and we were eliminated...ALWAYS. ( We got close to winning, but we never won.) If I remember, this is in the year book of '61??? I'll look.
Remember when the bus would take us to San Francisco to "Dance Party" on channel 5? Well, my parents were so strict I could never go anywhere. I was tired of everyone making fun of me. I could not go unless I had permission from one of my parents. Well, on the school office wall outside was a phone booth. So, I called the office pretending I was my mother, and they accepted it! I could not believe they accepted that! I was in shock, but I was on cloud 9!!! I went to dance party and was dancing up a storm. But, my mother was smart -- she was watching me on TV!!! When I got home, she made me tell my Dad what I had done, and the rest is history....
My favorite class was home economics and sewing. I would design my own clothes, and I took a few of my creations in to my teacher--I can not remember her name. However, I won a scholarship for sewing. I started San Mateo Jr. College with that scholarship.
